Deference

noun
respect and esteem due a superior or an elder

Rick Davis, campaign manager for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., just told Fox News Channel’s Chris Wallace that McCain running mate Gov. Sarah Palin won’t subject herself to any tough questions from reporters “until the point in time when she’ll be treated with respect and deference.”

These people are crazy.
The best part of politics in America, as a spectator sport, is the way in which people squander home runs by being jack asses.
Deference? This is not the Queen Mother we’re talking about.

Haberdasher

Sarah Palin said it tonight at the convention and I had to look it up, figured I’d share the results of my research.

n. A dealer in men’s furnishings.

We also learned that God issues oil drilling contracts in AK, who knew?

This is what we call ‘Making shit up’

8 million people passing through Webster a year?

A $160 million entertainment and educational development called Pangaea Theme Park – that, if realized, would rival Walt Disney World in size and scope – has been proposed for wooded land on Route 16 near the Webster town line.

Paul Brogioli of Milford, a retired art teacher and commercial artist, asked selectmen this week how they would react to a destination development that would draw 8 million visitors a year to their town and dramatically change the face of the entire region.

Not since the Fuzzy Grape was in operation has anything sounded this silly in that region.

Who wants to take bets on what breaks ground first, City Sq or Webster Disney?

More cuts at the T&G

Dear New York Times Company,
If these cuts don’t involve the most senior members of the T&G publishing and editorial staff, you’re still doing it wrong.

drunkatdnc redux

I linked to a stellar collection of DNC pics last week, looks like the same blog is now taking in photos from the RNC in St Paul. Right out of the gate we may have a winner.

Why Sarah Palin makes strategic sense

It’s almost too simple, really. It’s going to be very hard for the Obama camp to discount Alaskan energy policy and more importantly the Alaskan Permanent Fund on a national stage.

For the uninitiated:

She really balances the ticket, in the exact opposite way in which Biden balances Obama’s.

Who are these people?

I think it’s important to point out that the round-up of Hillary Clintons speech tonight at the Dem Convention over at the Blue Mass Group blog lasted exactly three comments before devolving into a discussion about the color of her pants suit.
link

Never mind how shrill the speech was, this complete inability to focus on anything meaningful as a party is why the Dems are likely to tank the election in November to a 9 billion year old fossil who doesn’t know what planet he’s on.

How many nails does it take to shut the T&G coffin?

Amazing numbers coming from the NYT today with advertising revenue slipping another 16.2 percent. But as seems to be the case with every financial release from the Times, it’s the New England media group, which includes the Telegram, that’s sucking hardest.

The company’s flagship The New York Times paper had 15.3 percent lower ad revenue. At its New England media group, which includes The Boston Globe, July ad revenue dropped 24.5 percent.
