One step closer to Skynet
“This is a clear step towards one of the main goals of the US Army’s Future Combat Systems project, which aims to make a single soldier the nexus for a large scale robot attack. Independently, ground and aerial robots have been tested together and once the bits are joined, there will be a robot force under command of a single soldier with potentially dire consequences for innocents around the corner.”
Sounds like fun.
And here’s some background on Skynet for those who missed out the 80’s.

Dire consequences for the innocents around the corner?
What comic book was this guy reading?
Nobody in the U.S. Military ever deliberately harms innocents (unless they want to be tried for murder, just like a civilian would be). I know you’re ignorant of military procedures, but I can assure you that we lose more American lives trying to save innocent lives than we take innocent lives in an effort to kill enemies. Common sense should tell you that a couple salvos of nukes or sorties of FAE’s would’ve cleared out Iraq/Afghanistan with zero U.S. Casualties.
You don’t have to be aware of something to make it true, and this is just one more example of that.
No, it’s one step closer to Voltron!
lincoln, nothing you just wrote has anything to do with any of the articles and/or bid proposals linked above.
Noel Sharkey, the guy ‘reading comic books’ is one of the the worlds best minds when it comes to Artificial Intelligence and robotics.
It’s the reflexive fear of “dire consequences for innocents” that I’m responding to.
Reflexive? The guy studies AI and robotics for a living. Where does one draw the line between reflexive and informed? Reflexive would be a guy who has been in the military assuming his experience better prepared him for understanding the future of warfare more so than the people charged with creating that future, no?
