Deference

noun
respect and esteem due a superior or an elder

Rick Davis, campaign manager for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., just told Fox News Channel’s Chris Wallace that McCain running mate Gov. Sarah Palin won’t subject herself to any tough questions from reporters “until the point in time when she’ll be treated with respect and deference.”

These people are crazy.
The best part of politics in America, as a spectator sport, is the way in which people squander home runs by being jack asses.
Deference? This is not the Queen Mother we’re talking about.

This may just be my inner English teacher coming out, but I suspect this may well be a case of “I do not think that word means what you think it means.” I’ll bet he meant “respect” and thought the two were synonyms.
(Thus demonstrating that he needs a better education, self-taught or otherwise, in order to do his job properly.)

Deference has been shown to the Obama camp without them even having to ask for it. The media asks him questions like “Now that you’ve united the Party and won your nomination, do you feel like you’re ready for the challenges left to you by the administration of McCain’s Party?”. Every interview has been a free infomercial for Barry.
Never mind the deference Hillary was shown during the Primary. No one ever asked her about her actions regarding the FBI files she stole, the investigation she stonewalled or her bizarre shifting recollections about the Rose Law firm, shady cattle deals, etc.
Palin will get asked EVERYTHING that Obama, Clinton, etc. never were. I think she’s up to it, even with the mainstream press having abandoned all pretense that they are anything but an extension of Code Pink.

Ah, the infamous “Tom” appears to have migrated here from the T&G comment boards.
