Which team are you on?
The senators said the new guidelines would allow the F.B.I. to open an investigation of an American, conduct surveillance, pry into private records and take other investigative steps “without any basis for suspicion.” The plan “might permit an innocent American to be subjected to such intrusive surveillance based in part on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, or on protected First Amendment activities,” the letter said. It was signed by Russ Feingold of Wisconsin, Richard J. Durbin of Illinois, Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts and Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island.

I’m on the side of the FBI. Simply because I like to spy on useless sucks who do nothing remotely criminal.
It has nothing to do with the fact that in order to prevent terrorist attacks, one must know in advance of those attacks. That’s just a right-wing fear tactic. The best way to prevent terrorist attacks is to file paperwork with the U.N. and send billions in food aid to the aggressors. Everyone already knows that.
I say the government should spy on everyone who thinks that the government spies on everyone. Those are the boobs to watch.

>>I’m leaning towards writing you and Dick Chervinskey in for City Council at the next election..you make to much damn sense:>)
I forgot, Tom. COINTELPRO was just a big dream cooked up by anti-American reds. If you’re not doing anything wrong… right?
You couldn’t be more right. I was able to hack in and “watch the watchers” and I picked up this exchange…
…Unit 10, come in….come in, Unit Ten. Over…
Unit Ten here. Over…
We’ve got a hard e-mail trace on Buck Paxton, Worcester MA. Over…
Buck Paxton? He sent another e-mail critical of the current state of wiener regulation, didn’t he? Over…
Correct, Unit Ten. Pick him up and throw him in the hole for a few days. Over…
Roger, Command. I’ll be there as soon as I mop up here at the scene of the Koslowski ATM withdrawal. Out.
Be afraid, Buck, be very afraid.
I totally forgot, government is my friend and knows what is best. Why hello there friendly neighborhood Denver policeman! Oh look, Americas Got Talent is on.
Yup, those cops are just out there being mean, rotten people. There has never, ever been violence at a Democratic Convention and zero groups have publicly stated their intention to infringe on the rights of others, so who needs the cops?
In fact, if the cops weren’t there, then the protestors would calmly express their views and obey the laws of society and basic decency.
By the way, I’ve got a great investment opportunity for you, but you have to act fast or it’s gonna be too late…

Buck, you should go join these geniuses in Denver. The big bad military-industrial complex that has plunged you into a life of fear and imagined oppression seems to be getting shouted down. Strike now young Skywalker, and rid the Universe of all ideas contrary to Central Control!!!

What ever happened to the freedom to whip rocks at cops and block traffic??? Damn police state.
Actually, the protests have been remarkably underwhelming in the early going. According to some “live bloggers” in Denver the disturbance in the above article was basically an effort by those who came to Denver for the purpose of causing chaos, getting arrested, etc. to get things started. Apparently, the cops are more than happy to let the protestors do anything they want in various parks, public areas, etc. and the nutjobs got tired of waiting for some Gestapo raid and decided to seek out the cops and get the ball rolling.
The college kids who post on the blogs (go to Denver Post, Recreate 68, or DNC Disruption.com to find the blogs) are hilarious. 90% of them were taking pics/video for Youtube and bailed at the first sign of pepper spray. Most will be spending the rest of the week getting stoned and eating tofu burgers in their tent city.
I heard that Sven’s hero (Alex Jones?) got roughed up at a demonstration but I haven’t found a good link yet.
You think pepper spray is bad? Try the brain drill!!!
From the Politico:
…House Democratic leaders and protesters waving McCain signs had a war of words Tuesday at a press event outside an old train station. The demonstrators interrupted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with chants of “Drill here! Drill now!”
Pelosi paused and asked the group, “Right here?”
Seeming to enjoy the back and forth, she followed with another question: “Can we drill your brains?”….
I know nobody really cares about this stuff so this is gonna be the “talk to myself about the DNC” thread.
What a bunch of chumps….
…”Protestors from New York to San Francisco are hailing this afternoon’s actions at Funk the War and Reclaim the Streets an inspirational success. After marching through the streets in an un-permitted breakaway snake march, Anarchists and Anti-Authoritarians have revitalized feelings of pride and possibility in protest in the streets.
The breakaway snake march lasted approximately two-and-a-half hours. Demonstrators and police had three tense stand-offs. After police demanded protesters disperse, they did. And then they reconvened and continued the occupation of public space, several times.
Approximately 20 demonstrators surrounded by police escaped into a multi-story parking lot, ran up the building, and chanted enthusiastically from the roof to the delight of the crowds below.
The classic Whose Streets Our Streets chant gained real meaning for the protesters as they reclaimed the parking lot, the streets, and a sense of possibility that hints at the transforming power of a public in rage at the war and fueled with a tremendous sense of joy and liberation.
Reports indicate that the police acted violently, shooting some sort of weaponry into the crowd and arresting a protesting youth. Police used horses to attack demonstrators.
Despite police violence, the victory in the streets was had by these non-permitted demonstrators who proved that public explosions of joy and liberation are still possible indeed.”…
