For the love of god, enough already

Everywhere I turn these days is a buffoon wrapped snuggly in a veil of pseudo enlightenment, that’s mostly fine and mostly funny. But someone has to call in a reality check when the newspaper of record for a relatively large city is printing crap like this in their letters section:

Thursday, January 3, 2008
God made everything some 6,000 years ago

To the millions of people who think and believe that God created life millions of years ago, they should read their Bible, Genesis I.

Remember, it’s Satan’s master plan to deceive the whole world if he could and he knows exactly how to do it in a very cunning and deceitful way, especially now in these latter days. He works through the media, television, scientists and mixing paganism with Christianity. He’s the ultimate deceiver.

It’s written in the Bible, even though we don’t know because God didn’t reveal it to us exactly how old the Earth is, we do know when he created life, the seas, vegetation, the moon, sun and stars some 6,000 years ago.

THERESA A. ELLIOTT

What fucking year is this again? It’s been mostly obvious for some time now that T&G corporate doesn’t actually give a shit about the paper or reality. I had one of their employees tell me recently that ‘it is a well known fact people don’t actually read the news online’ which pretty much sums up their entire business model in one dreadfully misguided statement. But printing this sort of crap goes one step further and embarrasses me as a citizen of Worcester. Believe in whatever deity you want, but IT IS NOT OK TO THINK THE WORLD IS 6000 YEAR OLD. That sort of belief is worthy of scorn and ridicule, nothing more, nothing less.

Now someone please tell me this is a joke.

I WAS just gonna make the following comment…

It’s fun bein’ stupid… sez so right in the bah-ble!

But when I got to the comment page, the Ads by Google had a pitch for Online Bible Quotes! “Find and read Bible verses online as seen on CNN.” That was right above the “leave a reply” main body on the page…

    HAH!

And THEN I noticed, over on the right column, it has “Online Bible Quotes” and “Bible Ringtones” and “Audio Bible” and “Read the Bible in Hebrew”…

    This is funnier than Bollards!!!

Hey, it’s Worcester and it is the T&G. At the moment maybe that is the joke. It sounds nuts to you, however it is only someone’s opinion and it is an “editorial section” as well. The fact is none of us will know who is right or wrong about such things until we are dead. Regarding the 6,000 year thing, could it be that the person could be talking in dog years or God years? I mean if it took God 6 days to create the whole shebang (Must be God Years),who is to say who is right or wrong? I don’t know shit and really, no one does. Only an idiot would presume they do. Hey the lady didn’t mention Internet, she mention TV. What’s up with that? The evil underlord could be typing this right now on the Internet. A HA ! Yes, Brendon, on the Internet.
I guess one person’s faith may be too much for another to handle.
What is anything without faith but vanity anyway.

The only thing that confused me about this is it ran on Thursday.

Usually they save these letters until Saturday.

Yes, let’s throw out all of civilization from 4000BC back. Those were “practice” years. Pre-season humanity, if you will. You know, where we really only started the third-stringers and people looking to make the cut. So whatever our record shows about those years, we really can’t consider them when the real season started and we put our game (God) faces on.
