Irrational Public Radio
If you’re a fan of public radio and also happen to be a fan of parodies, the fine folks at Irrational Public Radio have just the thing for you. Former Worcesterite turned all around interesting actor/comedian type, Joe Smith was kind enough to turn me on to his latest project which is available in both album and podcast forms.
Good stuff.
Free is always the best way to sell
This past Friday I made a quick stop at Mass Liquor on Chandler St in Worcester to stock up for the weekend. While wandering around between their wines and impressive selection of craft beer I noticed an attractive woman in her twenties standing awkwardly in the middle of the store. Since I was focused on more important matters, like alcohol, I mostly ignored the blond sore thumb until I got in line when she asked me if I’d like to try some vodka. So I turned around and… “wait a second… are you offering me a shot?” to which pretty lady responded “yes, it’s from Norway”, clearly overlooking my astonishment at the availability of free shots while waiting in line. I pretend to be interested in the point of origin of the deliciously clear liquid and hammered back what I believe was the first shot I’ve ever been offered in a package store. Immediately my puritanical New England sensibilities went into overdrive trying to determine how what I had just done must be wrong before coming to grips with the truth, I really don’t give a shit. This is a simple, mostly genius idea and one I hope to see much more of.
Mass Liquor +1
Worcester is legend
Ever get the feeling you’re all alone? You will once you take a look at Worcester via Google Maps street view. Seriously, second largest city in New England and barely a warm body in sight? I can’t even find Gary Rosen and this appears to have been shot during his peak judging from the Fall Fest sign on City Hall.
Just to make this fun, I’ll buy an overpriced drink for the first three people who can point out a drug deal in progress, solicitation of a prostitute or a politician getting a hummer in a cemetery.
*update* WoMag has done the undoable(?) and actually located Gary Rosen!
Todays podcast
It’s Friday, so that means we have another “508” for you at Pie and Coffee.
This week we have dead jurists, icy sidewalks, menorahs, intelligent felons and much-much-more…
That will leave a mark
In my past few lives, I’ve taken my share of OSHA workplace safety classes. At least one per year, if you’re keeping score. And although I can recite the questions - which never change - from memory, this one short video from the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board in Ontario Canada has years of training beat x10. Amazing.
