Walk Score

We can file this nicely into the ‘fuzzy math but kinda-sorta interesting’ category. Walk Score will figure out, on a scale of 0-100, just how walkable your ‘hood is. Using my house as a starting point, Tatnuck Sq in Worcester, MA scored a relatively grim 23. According to them, that means

Driving Only: Virtually no neighborhood destinations within walking range. You can walk from your house to your car!

Not to far off.  But what’s most interesting is the expandable lists of nearby stuff, no surprises really, but I can see this sort of thing being a perfect deal maker/breaker for someone about to relocate.

If anyone paying attention feels like playing with this, I’d be interested in seeing how some of your neighborhoods rate in the comments.

Quinsig Village: 26 out of 100

Then, for chuckles, I keyed in 500 Main St:

74! I guess this means I should leave my house more often.

No that it matter sto me, but off of Burncoat St. got a 45= Not Walkable: Only a few destinations are within easy walking range. For most errands, driving is a must.

Neighborhood has a shitlload of foot traffic from casual walkers, though.

Pathetic for living this close to a large school and a block off of Main St. Kelly Sq got an 85 however.

It’s not very accurate. Lot’s of business that isn’t operating anymore shows up and lots of businesses that have been there for years do not. I am going to try it for the Baltimore neighborhood, which I found more walkable then my present neighborhood and see what it says.

I dunno, I’m in Quinsig Village and it said 28 walkability but we walk to just about everything local these days. Resturants, grocery store, pizza place, liquor store.

My house near Highland and West Street got 80 out of 100. Within a mile’s talk you’ve got just about anything you could need. Except a post office and a 24 hour diner.

I got 25 out of 100 and just like Gabe, they listed stuff that had been out of biz for quite some time. I can however walk to the Home Depot to get my walkable supplies!

Walk score is a great service. With the help of it you can estimate your present location and see how walk able your neighborhood is. I have tried and my result is just 25. But how often do we walk nowadays? At http://drivescore.fizber.com/ I have found one more service very similar to this one. It is called Drive Score. With the help of it you can see how close establishments are by car. My drive score is 55.
