LED street lights

I’m sure most of you who have seen the recently redesigned common here in Worcester, MA would agree that its absolutely gorgeous. Although not yet open to the public, so that the new grass has time to root properly, it’s a welcome improvement to what was a pretty dark and not very user friendly space.
I just noticed this post over at Engadget about LED streetlights being installed by Phillips in the Dutch town of Ede, this would be a prefect way to introduce the idea of ‘green’ urban planning to Worcester; something that’s being discussed quite a bit for the coming CitySquare project. The life span of these bulbs is spectacular, 50,000 light hours, along with a combination of yellow and white bulbs that can be adjusted so the light they give off better matches both the time of day and the season.

Looks like I have some phone calls and emails to make/send off today.
