Frontline: Rumsfeld’s war

PBS has made available on line the full video of ‘Rumsfelds War’, a frontline documentary they ran last week. Its a very well balanced look at the power struggles within the current Bush administration and gives quite a bit of insight to Rumsfelds’ push for a civilian controlled military.

Outsourcing your healthcare

The country that wont eat cows just made that roast beef sandwich I ate for lunch so much easier to digest. Just as they took our manufacturing and code writing gigs, now India is moving in on the western medical community. For a smooth $190,000 discount, you can get that cheeseburger saving bypass surgery, and a complimentary tour of the Taj Mahal, in New Delhi.

Eager to cash in on the trend, posh private hospitals are beginning to offer services tailored for foreign patients, such as airport pickups, Internet-equipped private rooms and package deals that combine, for example, tummy-tuck surgery with several nights in a maharajah’s palace. Some hospitals are pushing treatment regimens that augment standard medicine with yoga and other forms of traditional Indian healing.

‘New’ giant ape found in DR Congo

From the BBC, an apparently new species of ape has been discovered in the North DR of Congo. Growing up to 6.5 feet and weighing in at 220lbs, locals describe them as extremely fierce, with the ability to thrash a lion.

“If this had been a bluff charge, they would have been screaming to intimidate us. These guys were quiet. And they were huge. They were coming in for the kill. I was directly in front of them, and as soon as they saw my face, they stopped and disappeared.”

Freedom Tunnel @ Wooster Collective

Wooster Collective has a few shots from NYC’s Freedom Tunnel. FT was home to the urban legandary Mole People. These photos represent the work of the people who actually did live there.

Yesterday our friend Swoon went into the Freedom Tunnel here in New York. She writes - “It’s a place which was previously abandoned and then occupied by a large community of people later termed the “mole people”. They were routed when Amtrak bought it and then put the tunnel back into use. There are some beautiful surviving murals painted by freedom chris, hence the name freedom tunnel”

Spring Broke

FleshBot has made a few mentions lately of “Spring Broke”, a photographic project by Nathaniel Welch which captures a little bit of spring break magic for the masses. I haven’t had a chance to pick up the book just yet, a necessary addition to my coffee table. But there are a few samples of his work available on his site. I’m a little partial to the shower orgy, but that’s just me.
I miss keg stands…

Just a regular guy. Right.

Sean Hannity, who prides himself on being just a regular American, is not up for a regular American flight. Hannity had promised a speech at Washington University in St. Louis to coincide with a speech planned by Michale Moore at the school. When a private jet from a manufacturer of his liking was unavailable, the school organizers tried to get him booked on a commercial flight, which he refused.
