Back to the Future
In case you were having a hard time deciding wether the debate will be worth watching, you can decised a few hours ahead of time, sort of, thanks to ABC news. They hid a post debate piece on their site a few hours early, only to pull it once it showed up on the radar of those who like to think the news is reported after it happens.
Thursday night’s meeting at the University of Miami was the first of three
Bush-Kerry debates over a two-week period. Neither side was underestimating
its importance with a TV audience of 30 million to 40 million expected. Almost a
third of people surveyed say the debates will be a deciding factor in how they
vote.
The first debate drew the nation’s attention to hurricane-battered Florida and its
political importance. Florida swung the presidency to Bush in the disputed 2000
election and could determine whether he wins re-election.
The debates were staged under a rigid set of rules negotiated by the candidates’
representatives to limit spontaneity and opportunities for back-and-forth
exchanges.

According to this story that WIRED is running, the FDA is pushing ahead with trials on more than one classic psychedelic drug. psilocybin, which is found in our good friend the mushroom, is being used to treat cluster head aches. And MDMA, ecstasy, as a treatment for anxiety in terminal cancer patients. It should be noted that MDMA was initially used for treating anxiety disorders in phychitric circles prior to it being made illegal due to fears of abuse.
The Heffter Research Institute, the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies and others have managed to persuade the Food and Drug Administration to approve a handful of clinical trials using psychedelics. The movement seems to be gaining ground in recent years. Since 2001, the FDA and the Drug Enforcement Administration have given the go-ahead to three clinical trials testing psychedelics on symptomatic patients, and several more are on deck.
I remember when just scoring some Ritalin from your ADD friends was getting lucky, this actually sounds promising.

Dog boy found in Siberia
Police in the Altai region are reporting that they found a 7ish year old boy at an abandond house who appears to have been rasied by a dog.
A spokesman said: “He was running about on all fours and growling. They thought he was playing at first but the house is miles from anywhere and is little more than a ruin, and he was really dirty and naked, so they realised something was wrong.
Well I’m sure this young lad will lead a promising life at whatever no-kill shelter the authorities decide to place him in.
Porn just got a little bit more expensive to make.
Two porn houses in LA have been fined by CA state officials from the division of Occupational Health and Safety for allowing ‘employees’ to have unprotected sex. The agency cited violations of the states blood borne pathogen standards. The fines are being levied at the outfits where four film ’stars’ contracted HIV on the set earlier this year and weigh in at $30,000 apiece.
Something tells me were going to see the underground amature markets explode soon.
Apple and Apple; Steve vs. Paul
It’s been a long time since people have been talking about the Apple vs. Apple dispute. For anyone who forgot what it was about, check this piece on the BBC. A very solid background on the Trademark dispute you forgot about long before you even owned a computer.
And then there’s this thread going on over at Volcanoboy.com which will shed light on all the mysteries of the universe link
What’s gotten into these kids today?
The 2003 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, which was released on Thursday, found that while overall drug use is stable among teens the use of weed ecstasy and LSD has dropped off significantly. The study goes on to state that alcohol use/abuse is up. What are kids doing for fun if there are no hallucinogens in their regimen? If people stop smoking weed we take the risk of finding out that Monty Python was never funny to begin with.
Its shame I tell ya.
Breast milk via Google
I just noticed that all my AdSense ads are coming from breast milk pump companies. I find that fascinating, breast milk pump rackets must be the Viagra spam for the prego set.
